Does a gas tankless water heater still need electrical power?
Yes. A gas-fired tankless water heater can still depend on 120-volt electricity for ignition, controls, sensors and venting. In this documented project, the equipment needed a reliable power source that was not shared with other loads. We installed a new dedicated branch circuit from the electrical panel to the water heater and tested the completed installation.
How we can help
Common reasons customers call
- Rinnai tankless water heater required 120V power
- No shared appliance circuit
- New dedicated 20-amp branch circuit
- #12 copper conductors for this installation
- GFCI protection where applicable
- Panel-to-equipment pathway
- Final protection and voltage testing
Clear process
What happens next
- 01Review the water heater electrical requirements
- 02Confirm panel capacity and circuit pathway
- 03Install the dedicated breaker and #12 copper circuit
- 04Provide required protection and connect the equipment
- 05Test voltage, GFCI operation and completed power delivery
Field experience
A dedicated power-delivery path from the panel to the water heater.
The video follows the installation from the tankless water heater and circuit route back to the electrical panel, then shows the completed protection and testing. Equipment requirements and site conditions vary, so we verify the nameplate, panel and applicable code requirements before proposing the circuit.
